Dear Fat Camp Babe,
After 52 years mak finally manage to come up with the Serikin Declaration, thanks to you. She also told me that her son-in-law is good looking. Again, thank you my friend for the pressure. Why can’t you just leave me alone?
To Raja Nazrin, wherever you are….
Got a picture of you, I carry in my heart
Close my eyes to see it, when the world gets dark
Got a memory of you, I carry in my soul
I wrap it close around me, when the nights gets cold
If you asked me how I'm doing
I'd say just fine
But the truth is, baby
If you could read my mind

Facts of Life
Was as the uni health center on thursday morning for my allergy and cough issues (what else is new?). It's been merely two months of student life and i cough a bit the night before. For those who didn't know, if you are not ill or have any respiratory problem - coughing can be due to stress level (my case). The doctor meant well when she ask me to exercise to manage the situation. Somehow i wonder if she's trying to call me fat .. (blame PMS)
Received a belated birthday card from my parents few days ago. Mak call earlier asking if she should courier the card. Told her that was not neccessary unless she's planning to include some cash along. [I suppose you guys have noticed by now that i am a takde perasaan kind of person. Hugging and what not doesn't work with me. And that's how my family is] Anyway what's more important is what mak wrote inside. Among others she wrote "semoga ketemu jodoh". Besides blaming astro kirana for the line, it makes me want to go to the gym every day...........

The adventure so far
Dear all,
I landed at Penang International Airport on Sunday afternoon feeling sleepy. Became awake within minutes thanks to loud airport carpet colour. Baru sampai dah kutuk negeri orang hehe. Next was this (almost treasure hunt) taxi ride to USM Guest House. I assume the Chinese taxi driver complimented me when he said as a new student I have very few, in fact the least barang he has ever seen. All went downhill after that. Dah la Pak Guard bagi salah direction, my taxi driver pulak short tempered. The guy made me navigate (tukang baca sign board) while he watch out for bumps and potholes.
Monday morning I went to Postgraduate Studies Institute (IPS), trying to register myself while my new taxi driver waited outside with my stuff. Next thing I knew the lady said selagi belum attend school briefing tak boleh register. Nice! Then I ask if there is anyone to assist me with my logistics. Again negative feedback. To cut the story short I manage to get temporary stay in the hostel which is now my permanent room.
Until today I know very little about my roommate, Miss X. Her part of the room was ready when I moved in. I suppose Miss X balik kampung since lecture will only begin next week. Or she could be doing by research. Really hope we can bear each other, will keep you posted on this hidup bermasyarakat thing. As for the plan to request for international house single room, I will have to put that on hold. By Monday afternoon there were already 26 people in the waiting list and the process takes months. In the news two days ago they announced that USM receive the biggest number of international students this year….
Tuesday I went to George Clooney town with my new friend, a melanau dude whom I met at guest house. He was here to send his son who is pursuing degree in geophysics. Such a small worls, someone he is related too is a former student of mine. So we went to Prangin Mall and within 48 hours of stay on the island I already bought myself a few pirated software hehehe….
Wednesday – school briefing and registration. Security guy was kind enough to draw me a map to the school. On my way, I bump into this convoy of undergrads who were on their way to the hall. Tumpang sekaki. Orientation Facilitators too help me with direction. Get to learn shortcut path to the school, not bad huh? Welcoming speech by the dean was a wake up call. My dean is a professor in history, and unlike the other old man with history background he is did not talk bunga-bunga and I like it. His concern was over the alarming failure rate among postgraduate students.
First meeting with lecturers and classmates was equally interesting. There are suppose to be nine students but only five turn up that day. One Indonesian guy, two Saudi Arabian ladies and us, two Sarawakian girls. Our programme chairperson too is a Sarawakian (JMS!!!). And yes Fat Camp Babe, I do believe Sarawakians are obsessed with GIS. The other girl happened to be a former KCJ matriculation student in Pending and is now a UNIMAS tutor. Pegi jauh-jauh agik juak betemu sama dirik.
For those who is yet to set foot in USM I must tell you that within campus, there is a makan place for every few hundred meters you pass by. I kid you not! Just look at our former students who pursued their degree here. The good news is sports centre in just a few hundred meters away from my hostel. So Fat Camp Babe, will you still be my friend if I start exercising again?
I will share with you some of the mistaken identity incidents soon.
p/s
Mrs Keanu - this is last warning, stay away from my boboi neighbours. I heard rumah sidak dah ada CCTV
Hobbit - if 3 X 6 = 18, what is 3 X 6 / 7 – 4 ?
Fat Camp Babe - If I take up your thesis offer, will you help me with data collection? Very easy one, you just take aerial photographs, a bit of land surveying etc…

Tanah Melayu Itch
This post is written and edited in three different states. Too complicated lah tek.
----------------------------------------------
Every decade (since the 80s) i somehow ended up studying in Melaya.
In a few hours time Round 3 will begin after a few ponek oversea attempts. Packing is 90% done, turned down mak's offer to cook tapau-able stuff. I have three months to survey food heaven island before deciding my order.
A few more FAQs:
Q : Why only one year?
A : Mixed mode programme
Q : Why not by research mode?
A : Sik tekabir. Plus am not so sure if i still want to be in academic line after this.
Q : Masters or PhD?
A : Masters la. Am not smarter than a fifth grader (like some people)

Neighbourhood Watch - Final Episode
Dear Mrs Keanu and Hobbit,
Please be informed that both of you are now banned from roaming around BDC area without adult supervision. Stunt both of you pulled last night ruined my reputation . As a (perasan) repectable neighbour, i will not allow any harm to those boys. Do not let them grow up assuming all older women are gatal.
If you must appeal, please contact ICJ i.e. my mother.
In the mean time i shall think of ways to manage the situation during raya open house...

FAQ
Yep, its official. I am going back to school in less than six weeks time. Colourful feedback from friends so far, ranging from congratulations to you can't study forever. Now it's the usual drill all over again: air ticket (thank god for MAS RM0 fare promo), medical check up (hope this time the nurse in-charge of height measurement is not that short) etc.. So as to spare myself from repeating the same answer, i present to you these info:
Q : Where to?
A : USM
Q : Do what?
A : Geographical Information Science (GISc)
Q : Huh? Is that GIS?
A : Not so much. GISc is more of the end-user of GIS technology
Q : Why USM?
A : The only local university that offers non-research mode programme and acccept multi discipline first degree qualification. At least the only one i came across.
Q : Why not UNIMAS?
A : Too near. Seriously, besides the not so forgiving research mode, i think three years there is enough.
Q : Why not UPM?
A : Research mode. Also didn't want to end up like the girl who ask me the question hehehe.
Q : Your mother sending you?
A : Nope. She'd probably ditch me at KLIA for shopping. Teased her the other day, and she went I didnt even send you to Taiping when you were 13.
Q : Are you still working now?
A : Technically i still have a job. I just don't go to work.
Q : Can you drive now?
A : Still no. Must live up to the expectation: to be chauffeur-driven at all time.
Q : Are you chinese?
A : For the gazillionth time NO.

Neighbourhood Watch
Once upon a time, Hobbit and Mrs Keanu went to Croft Mansion to visit Lara. Days earlier, Lara told them about her new neighbours, 3 bachelors working for MAS.
Mrs Keanu purposely parked her car in front of the guys mansion. Lara and Mrs Croft waited at the main entrance and these well-mannered girls (in Mrs Keanu's case, only when she is sober - a bit like Karen Walker) greeted Mrs Croft from far.
Mrs Croft became menyampah because even though the greetings were directed towards her, they were done while peeping at the pilots' place. Lucky for them, they were allowed to enter Croft Mansion...
The end.
Update 1: Two of them got married (not to each other), the remaining bachelor is probably back in KL and piloting international flights.
Update 2: Lara has new neighbours, two girls and a guy living in the second house from the junction. The guy is a gym instructor. ANYONE??

Mr Right Part 2
Remember my mother's golden rule on whom not to marry?
Guess what? Golden Rule version 2008 has a new, fourth criteria : no indon.
Nothing wrong with them, she's just fed-up with bureaucracy at Indonesian Consulate. So people, care to name my loss thanks to the latest don't?
